Ive been busy with other stuff, but have finally resumed work on the house. The current project is built-in bookcases for the living room. I rebuilt my EZ-One in preparation for this project, but more on that some other time.
This series of posts will jump around a bit since I have already started the project and want to post about a step I just did. I didnt want to spend money for a uni-tasker shelf pin jig and didnt really want to build my own. Then I realized I had the perfect tool already, the JessEm Doweling Jig, which lets me drill holes (1/4" or 3/8"), evenly spaced and square. Shelf pins are usually spaced at 1", but the 3/4" spacing of the jig is just fine for me.
The bookcases consist of four boxes that will have three shelves. I wanted 4-5" adjustment for each shelf, so the 3/4" spacing with seven holes gives me 4-1/2" of adjustment. I wanted to center the holes on the optimal location (for esthetics). so I figured the needed offset for each group of holes and made three story sticks (or jigs) to use to place the JessEm jig. That is a lot of holes (168) but the process went quickly. There are some drawings in the previous post that show the idea for the bookcases. I made a short video of the process:
Ill do more posts on this project as I have time.
